Welcome to Savoy, the region of Higlands and great landscapes.
In two lines: photos of Savoy, Landscapes and glaciers, Coomb of Savoy, environment, Beaufortain, Tarentaise, Maurienne, Bauges, Grande Chartreuse, lakes. Macro of fauna and flora. Good news or bad news ? On my own observations, I feel (it's just a feeling) that the glaciers are in a better shape each year. I noticed in 2007 that the glaciers were better at the end than at the begining of the summer. In 2008, I saw that a persistent snow area (névé) in the Lauzière mountain didn't melt during all the summer. It's the first time I observe it since 5 years. In winter 2008/2009, the Grande Motte's cable car in Tignes (3650 meters) allows to see the expansion of the glacier. The seracs are bigger than ever. Are we going to a new age of Ice ? It's too early to say that; but if it's true, the history shows that the glaciers may significantly grow in only ten years. Shall we see the Bossons glacier in the valley of Chamonix ? Wait, observe and see ! Savoy is a part of the French Alps located near the borders with Switzerland and Italy. It is famous for the Olympic Games of Albertville and its ski resorts among the biggest of the world (Val d' Isère, Courchevel, Val Thorens, La Plagne...). But there is not only the skiing industry. Savoy is also a mythical place of the Alps with the glaciers of the Vanoise, the massifs of Beaufortain, Grande Chartreuse. Anyone, whether he is from this region or he lives anywhere else in the world, can dream about these vast areas. By hundreds of photos, discover the fauna and the flora of this region. Marmots and ibexes, eagles and grouses, the nature makes everything beautiful here. Enjoy the trail you have choosen : you are in the Alps now ! All the photos are original.
